Almost Tangible

Rather than a narrative inspiration, an album I have recently acquired has served as my greatest aural inspiration for a screenplay I have been writing. Von, by Sigur Ros has powered a large part of my written screenplay.

Here is an example of the album, the title track, Von.

Depressing I know, not all of the album is so downbeat but the entire tracklist is dark and forboding yet somehow… eventually peaceful and calming. It has served my script incredibly well, to the point where I would love to be able to use elements of the music within the screen version. With the nightmares I have been suffering recently (and maybe partly my SAD) as most winters do, it brings out my darker nature. I haven’t found an album to channel it like Von in a very long time. Music when i’m writing allows me to almost reach out and touch the images that are in my mind.

Sigur Ros are an Icelandic band in the alternate-rock and ambient genres.

(Interestingly, Von in Icelandic means “Hope”)
